Bring Ohm to Your Home with a Zen Room

Bring peace and relaxation to your home with Zen decorating.

Zen Decorating for Peace, Relaxation and Atmosphere

The freedom to renovate and decorate as you please is one of the best parts of owning a home. But with so many interior design options, where do you start? One great option is to create a peaceful, tranquil feel either in one specific “Zen” room or throughout your whole home. It's not difficult to get started and bringing a little ohm into your home is the perfect antidote to remedy a busy, stressful day.

Step one in bringing ohm to your home--or just about any home improvement project--is clearing out some of the clutter. Now is the time to store, sell or donate some of those unused knick-knacks in order to create the clean, open space that is crucial to a peaceful home interior.

  • Open Space – When you sit down in a room full of stimuli, it can be really difficult to relax, decompress and let your mind wander. That's why many home decorators go with a minimalist touch and why it's so important to create open spaces. Having less stuff around makes it much easier to keep your home clean.

  • Cleanliness – Cleanliness is another important aspect creating a peaceful home interior. You don't have to be a fanatic about keeping every surface spotless, but it's very helpful to make cleaning a regular priority around the house. A little dusting goes a long way.

  • A Green Thumb – After you've decluttered, it's time to pick some decorations that align with your new lifestyle. The easiest place to start is by adding some green, attractive indoor plants. A few indoor plants will add nice atmosphere, and the act of caring for them is peaceful in itself.

  • Yoga Space – Yoga studios are a great place to learn about decorating techniques for peace and relaxation. Why not bring a little bit of your favorite yoga studio into your home? Create a small space just for yoga, and decorate it as you see fit. This is an opportunity to have a little fun with your interior decorating.

  • Earthy Tones and Fabrics – Bold, bright colors can look beautiful in the right home, but they don't quite fit when you're going for a more relaxing look. Instead, pick earthy, natural tones for your paint and do the same for furniture fabrics. White walls can also work quite well, if you want to keep things simple.

  • Build a Bookshelf – Cracking open a good book is a classic way to relax and a few well-chosen books can even make for a nice decorating touch on your walls. Building a nice bookshelf or picking up an antique bookcase is an easy way to add to your new peaceful atmosphere.

The final ingredient is to add a personal touch, and that's something that only you can choose! This is your space after all, so it should certainly reflect your unique personality. Now is the perfect time to Zen-friendly home improvement, and have a little fun in the process.
